SAGAMIE is a contemporary art research centre that places artists and their work at the heart of its concerns. Explorations favoured at the centre are closely related to issues surrounding the contemporary image. The centre supports the production and dissemination of artists’ work through a program of residencies, publications, and exhibitions.
Located in the heart of Alma, Sagamie's exhibition center offers the general public an enlightened look at recent developments in Actual Art. It is an experimental space open to all visual artists, promoting the blending of techniques and the exploration of imagery and the various contexts in which image-making can be integrated. Artists are remunerated in accordance to the CARFAC/RAAV fee schedule.
Every year, Centre Sagmie welcomes close to 40 artists in residence, from Quebec, Canada, and abroad. With its extensive computer lab, four wide-format digital printers, and the technical expertise of its creative assistants, the Centre focuses on projects that present innovative points of view on current practices and open fresh avenues of exploration. These production-oriented residencies enable artists to develop the language of their art, redefine digital creation, and thus participate in advancing the discipline.
