The Carving Studio & Sculpture Center
The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center is an educational organization dedicated to the creation and presentation of sculpture. Its studio environment integrates instructional workshops and residencies to foster sculptural investigation and cultural exchange. Its unique location among the abandoned marble quarries allows them to draw inspiration from the past while developing a vision for the future.
Hosts maintain an extensive list if lodgings in their area. On the list are many local motels and inns. Also included are the homes of community members who make the visitors feel welcome, often for a very modest fee. Housing arrangements are the responsibility of each participant.
The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center is situated among the Green Mountains of central Vermont, 10 miles west of the Killington Resort area. Just 3 miles east of the Studio is the City of Rutland with Amtrak service to New York City and Vermont Transit/Greyhound to all points. Rutland State Airport has regular flights to Boston. Burlington International Airport is a two-hour drive north by car. Boston and Montreal can be reached in only three and one half-hours, while New York City is less than five hours from the Studio. Participants are welcome to make use of our professionally maintained fleet of bicycles as transportation. A brief walk around the nearby marsh provides a quiet respite within the surrounding natural beauty to view unique birds and flora.
