Straight Through the Wall 2021 — CALL FOR ARTISTS

Seeking artists working in Video, Experimental Film, Performance & Animation for STRAIGHT THROUGH THE WALL’s 2021 program, "STTW 2031".

STTW 2031

The future, conceptually exciting, mysterious, hopeful and terrifying, will soon be the mundanity of our daily lives. While flying cars and hover boards (regrettably) seem unlikely, so much else remains perfectly unknowable. Will we survive the various historical moments of the year 2020 to transcend our daily struggles together, holding hands and dancing in utopic bliss a decade later? Or will we slide into unfathomable ignorance and fall like lemmings into a new dark age? And where will the robots/algorithms/intergalactic aliens [check all that apply] fit in? Or is it possible that the year 2031 will be so much more boring than all that?

Step into the future with us. STTW 2031 is a chance to predict, embody, and/or inform our future together on this (or any other) planet. It is a time capsule, a collection of visions, hopes, and warnings of how we think 2031 might end up. It is a delirious daydream of various future timelines conjured 10 years early and transmitted directly into the mind’s eye of the public and onto the walls of the one of the world’s largest cities.

We are STRAIGHT THROUGH THE WALL, a guerrilla Arts collective that projects video art onto walls throughout NYC. We scour the city for blank building facades, willing canvases waiting above busy avenues or hovering over quiet gardens and empty lots. With every screening, we incorporate art into the cityscape, merging it with New York’s varied architecture, bringing it out of the rigid structures of galleries & exhibitions, and delivering it directly to the masses.

Our outdoor screenings consist of roughly 30 minute programs screened on loop and are free to all. Emerging & established artists are invited to submit their video proposals following the guidelines below.

Proposals must be for vertical videos (1080x1920) in response to the "STTW 2031" prompt. Videos should be 3-5 minutes long. Once selected, you'll be asked to complete your video by May 31st, 2021.

DEADLINE - FEBRUARY 15 - Submission Fee $20
