Trans Artists On Tour: November 2008
Somehow November turned out to be the month for Trans Artists to visit European capitals in Central Europe starting with the letter 'B'. B' as in Bucharest and Bratislava. Will Budapest follow? Who knows! In 2009 Trans Artists will be present in Warsaw, Skopje and Istanbul. Check this webpage to see if Trans Artists is coming to your region anytime soon to inform you on all kind of internatational artist-in-residence opportunities!
Bucharest: Life As A Stage
During the first two weeks of November UNITER organises its yearly National Theatre Festival. Started as a Project of Bucharest City Hall in 1990, the Festival developed its own identity within the Romanian and international cultural space. A wide range of cutting edge theatre groups from Romania and abroad are invited by UNITER to perform in one of Bucharest's historic and 'grande' venues. UNITER aims are ambitious which results in a vibrating festival with theoretical & educational activities 'on the side'. Trans Artists was part of the educational programme.
With the workshop 'How to Become an Artist-in-Residence' UNITER underlines the importance of making the next generation of young actors 'streetwise' by informing them on international education opportunities and new stages to perform! Trans Artists & UNITER are partners in the European 'Prologue' Network. This network aims at establishing and providing an information kit for art students to get acquainted with professional (inter)national artistic career opportunities.
Bratislava: In The Picture
After Bucharest Trans Artists' Next Stop is Bratislava. It turns out to be Bratislava's Annual Month of Photography. The city seems to breath photography. Many galleries, museums and art spaces take part in this public event. Photoport is one of the most exciting meeting places right now to check out 'What's On' in the contemporary photography scene of Slovakia. One of the founders of Photoport is the photographer Filip Vanco who aims at creating space (exhibitions in their gallery space and Online Gallery) for the presentation of contemporary work of young authors and for the confrontation of authors from the region of Central Europe.
Since Filip Vanco is also a member of the photography faculty of School for Visual Arts in Bratislava he is able to guide many young artists and art students to a professional exhibiting platform and can function as a kind of jumping board for young artists to have more (inter)national exposure. Initiatives like Photoport and UNITER are inspiring and sustainable partners for Trans Artists in establishing an educational network. The workshop in Bratislava has been made possible through the enthusiastic and generous staff of the Dutch Embassy.
