ZK/U Berlin

ZK/U Berlin

Center for Art and Urbanistics

Description

In the context of its research and residency program, ZK/U offers a ‘living & work space’: furnished studio-apartments (half of which have private bathrooms), communal facilities, a platform open for public events, lectures, discussions, screenings, performances and presentations. Located in a former railway depot surrounded by a freshly landscaped park, the ZKU - Center for Art and Urbanistics - is the linchpin of a concept developed by Berlin-based artists‘ collective KUNSTrePUBLIK. Analogous to the nineteenth-century transport of goods by rail, this unique new venue is set to become a lively hub for the transport of ideas and ideals in the postindustrial era. In addition to studio work, the main focus of the ZKU residency program is the cross-disciplinary exchange between artists, scholars and practitioners, as well as the outcomes of their individual and collaborative work that may include projects, symposia and exhibitions according to topic themes.

Outcome

Fellows will be encouraged to present their work and ideas at the beginning (e.g. a semi-public ‘Jour Fixe‘) and towards the end of their stay, allowing a chosen public to share their thoughts.

Studio Information

Space for ‘living & work’: furnished accommodation with mostly private bathroom, studio, wifi, communal facilities, shared and private production areas, a platform open to public events, lectures, performance and presentations.

Technical Information

Various spaces will be available for production, exhibiting, exchange and leisure, including the individual apartments, the open space, the communal kitchen, the library and conference space, the basement and workshop spaces, the roofed terrace, the surrounding park, local municipal workshops in the immediate neighborhood for specialized productions and installations can be realized.
