Viafarini adapts the form of the contribution according to the different cases. The contribution may comprise the donation of work for its fundraising.

For international guests and for those with hospitality needs, individual two-room studios with kitchens are available. If interested you are kindly asked to specify it, considering an additional contribution. For availability and prices please contact Viafarini.

VIR can provide invited guests with an invitation letter in order to help them in applying for specific funding opportunities.

Paid by artist:

A contribution of 1.000,00 euros is required to take part in the shared studio program.
Accommodation availability needs to be checked with the organization, with additional contributions required.

Application guidelines:

Open to visual artists and curators of every age and nationality. Each applicant must fill in and submit the application form, together with the following list of documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae. Maximum 3 pages (.doc or .pdf format)
  • Letter of Intent, briefly detailing motivation for participation in the program, the ideas to be developed during the stay and desired dates. Maximum 600 words (.doc or .pdf format)
  • Artists: portfolio of selected works, comprising images and descriptions (.pdf format)
  • Curators and critics: maximum of 5 texts assembled in one document (.pdf format)

VIR Viafarini-in-residence is a residency program open to artists, critics and curators interested in spending a period of research and work in Milan.

VIR is a place open to dialogue between visual arts and other forms of expression and creative incubation, aiming at giving space to the artistic productions of the hosted artists and facilitating skills exchange and professional growth. At regular intervals, the doors of the shared studio, which can always be visited by appointment, are opened to the public on the occasion of the Viafarini Open Studio, for the presentation of the works produced during the stay. Meetings and talks are organized.

Viafarini has the possibility to guest in individual apartments, located in the same building as the studio.

The Residency program is hosted also in the nearby Viafarini Archive located at Fabbrica del Vapore creative hub, a 300 sq. meters documentation centre with specialized library and artist portfolios.

The guests of the studio are selected through open calls, by invitation of curators, as well as through application forms submitted directly by artists and curators themselves.

Studio Information

In via Farini 35: 240 sq. meters shared studio facility. At Archivio 300 sq. meters with desks in a coworking environment inside the Documentation Center.

Accommodation Information

Viafarini has the possibility to guest in individual 40 sq meters, two rooms apartments, located in the same building as the studio.

The shared studio is available for periods of 4 months (January-April; May-August; September-December). Apartment residencies have a minimum duration of one month.

Technical Information

wireless internet 24/7 and access to all other Viafarini facilities, including DOCVA Documentation Center for Visual Arts. VIR can assist artists from the curatorial point of view, as well as facilitation in finding available options to satisfy specific project needs and preparation of the final Open Atelier. According to specific agreements VIR can invite selected artists and curators to take part in talks, lectures, round tables, classes.
