Description

The Textile Center residency seeks to promote an atmosphere of creativity, experimentation and reflection for artists and scholars working inside the textile field. They accept submissions from emerging, mid-career, and senior level artists and scholars all year round (open call).
The residency is situated in a historic building and former Women’s College in Blönduós known as Kvennaskólinn. The residency can accommodate 8 - 10 artists every month. Each resident is provided with his/her own bedroom equipped with a small desk and scenic view, access to studio facilities and open plan work space in the communal studio. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.
Artists in residence also have access to an exhibition dedicated to the history of the school, the tapestry of Vatnsdæla (both located within the building), and the Textile Museum next door. In walking distance, there is a great gym and heated outdoor pool featuring two hot tubs, sauna and 25m lap pool.
Since it first opened in 2013, the Textile Center residency has hosted over 250 textile artists and scholars from all around the world.

Studio Information

The Textile Center Residency provides artists in residence and visiting scholars with access to a loom studio, dye studio, open plan work space, TC2 digital loom and other textile related tools and equipment. Artists should bring all materials required for their residency projects. While they do have looms and studio space for dyeing and felting projects, they do not provide wool, yarn, dyes, etc.
Work space also also includes a dye studio and small makeshift gallery across the street. The Textile Center does not regularly organise or facilitate exhibitions, but artists in residence are very welcome to initiate an open house or their own exhibitions.

Accommodation Information

Artists in residence can chose from two different types of accommodation: Bedrooms and communal living space in the residency building, or group / family housing in a three-bedroom house next door. Artists working on the TC2 digital loom stay in the house where the loom is located. Please note that the residency is for artists in residence only; visitors are kindly asked to book guest accommodation in town.
Basic linen and towels are supplied. Other essentials such as tea-towels, sponges, dish-washing brushes, toilet paper, dish soap, and washing machine detergent are also provided. Residents are responsible for all other living expenses.

Location
