TATVA provides the artist with accommodation (private bedroom) and breakfast daily; plus the use of the rest of the villa. The residency is managed by two international emotional wellness professionals - a senior psychotherapist and a psychologist. Both are available to offer psychological and emotional support to the artists. Structured daily therapeutic programmes are also available for the artists if desired; to further enhance their personal development and well-being.
The residencies are US$500 a week. The artist will need to pay for all the travel and personal expenses.
Send them an email with a description of how you envision yourself as a resident at TATVA; your background, passions and interests. Please elaborate on how you feel Goa will be a good fit and include 5 samples of your work.
TATVA is an international emotional wellness project; promoting and celebrating conscious self exploration, emotional vulnerability and authenticity. It combines psychotherapy with creative self expression, experiential travel, eco/nature therapy and cultural immersion. They are committed to creating spaces where this can take place in a professional and safe environment, facilitated by experienced and highly trained international mental health professionals. The organizers aim to cultivate a sense of curiosity about ourselves and the world, in the age of distractions and quick fixes. They are a collaboration based organisation and they also co-facilitate retreats, workshops, events, training, lectures - whether they be in Goa, other areas of India or internationally.
TATVA's therapeutic residencies provides emerging and established artists a space for in depth exploration of their craft both practically and emotionally for a deeper understanding of their relationship to their writing, art or creative expression. This residency is aimed at delving into the psychological and therapeutic process for each artist; to gain a higher insight into their work and projects through guided self reflection and meaningful interaction with fellow residents. The residency offers its artists both the chance of a private retreat and opportunities to involve themselves into the local community of artists. They welcome applicants across all ages, nationalities, ethnicities, backgrounds, experience and genders.
The resident/artist is not expected to have a formal outcome as it's recognized that some artists just need space and time to rejuvenate or reconnect with their work; however they invite all interested residents to showcase their work in some form - whether that be a reading, talk, lecture, presentation, exhibition or a collaborative art project.
They offer three large double bedrooms with big windows and lots of natural light. One bedroom has an ensuite bathroom; the other two share a bathroom. All bedrooms have double beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes, balconies and sun loungers. There is also a spacious upstairs study with a writing table, a typewriter, a rocking chair and another small table with two comfy chairs with it's own private balcony. On the ground floor there is fully equipped communal kitchen, a wooden latticed sitting area off the kitchen, a downstairs toilet and shower, a large dining room and drawing/sitting room plus a relaxation room with board games, small library and vinyl record player. All rooms have air conditioning and ceiling fans. There is wifi available. Breakfast is included; dinner is by prior request at a small extra cost.
All the bedrooms are spacious and have chairs, tables and balconies - so artists use them for their creative work although it may be difficult if the artists have a big project as space is limited. There is also a loft and a study that residents can request to use on a rota basis. When not being used the dining room, sitting room and relaxation rooms can also be used as co-writing/creating spaces; as there are dividing glass paneled doors between the rooms. On occasion the drawing/sitting room and the relaxation room are used as exhibition or event spaces. There is also a large roof terrace with carpet and cushions which can be used for writing, sunbathing or other activities.
They do not provide any art materials or technical equipment; however these can be brought with you, or purchased locally.
TATVA is situated in the picturesque village of Corjuem; which is an island in the tropical North Goa. It is a farming and fishing community with striking Goan/Portuguese architecture surrounded by rice paddy fields, rivers, lakes, lovely walks and small country roads. It is a myriad of beautiful flora and fauna, birds, butterflies, animals and much tropical vegetation. The local town of Aldona, which is just over the cable bridge stretched cross the river Mapusa, has a daily produce market of vegetables, fish, bread etc. There are also cafes, shops, bars restaurants and everything to support the surrounding community.
