Space Studios

SPACE provides support and resources to artists to make the great art of our day. It is one of the largest arts organisations in England and has been at the vanguard in promoting the role of artists in society since its inception in 1968. They run several artist residency and bursary programmes providing support and development opportunities for artists at key stages in their career.

  • Permacultures: ongoing residency series that supports artists working with contemporary technological culture and focuses on the difficult relationship between art, technology and ecology. SPACE provides hosts 3-month International residencies and six 1-month UK residencies per year. International residencies are selected in collaboration with International partners and UK residencies are selected by open submission
  • SPACE hosts two 6-month Canadian artists per year with the support of Canada Council and 4 Korean artists per year supported by LG Fashion.
  • The Nina Stewart Artist Residency is offered to a recent graduate from a UK art school. The six-month residency receives a studio with SPACE and support and development from South London Gallery and culminating in an exhibition at South London Gallery.
  • The Bloomberg ON Bursary provides a studio for a recent graduate in the new Haymerle Road studios for one year.
  • The Valerie Beston Artist's Trust bursary supports one Royal College of Art graduating student with a studio and support for a year after graduating.

SPACE runs 17 artist studio buildings across 7 London boroughs.
