Sabinarti
SabinARTi Cultural Association has made available studio spaces at the “Palazzo del Gatto” in Casaprota to artists-in-residence of any discipline. During a minimum month stay each artist-in-residence will be able to develop a project that will be presented to the local community.
At the end of your journey you may present the results of your work to the local community at the Palazzo, the Township Hall, Town Theater, or along the streets of Casaprota as you wish.
Other than the laboratories, artists-in-residence can use for their works the garden, and nearby the Exhibition Hall and the Municipal Theater.
“Palazzo del Gatto” is situated in the historic center of Casaprota, a medieval village of seven hundred inhabitants, 60 kilometers north of Rome. Formerly the residence of a prominent family in the town, the place maintains its original space distribution, objects, decorations and furniture. It has four bedrooms, single and double, three bathrooms, kitchen, dining hall, two living rooms, the original store room (now a multifunctional space), and a wine cavern. The garden has panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, a water well, an old coach-house now transformed into a studio, the ruins of a former stable and other constructions once used for agriculture purposes. The grounds around the villa have a synergetic vegetable garden, olive and fruit trees.
Residents lodge in single rooms or, if coming as a couple, in double rooms. They can use the kitchen and the living rooms. As well as the studios, artists can make use of the Palazzo’s extensive garden, and the nearby communal theatre and exhibition hall. Wi-Fi is available throughout the villa. Bed linen and towels are provided. On request laundry services can be offered off the premises. Guests will receive complementary Sabina extra virgin olive oil which has DOP recognition. During their stay, artists will have the opportunity to meet with local artists.
The little medieval village of Casaprota (10th century) is a rural location with basic amenities (grocery shops, bars, pharmacy, post office, hair dresser, hardware, doctor office, summer swimming pool).
From the “Palazzo del Gatto” residents can take leisurely walks to the villages of Collelungo and Montenero Sabino, or alongside a creek all the way to the source of the river Farfa and the Medieval Bridge, otherwise along fields of centuries old olive groves. Near Casaprota interesting places can be visited, such as the Farfa Abbey, the Turano Lake and Castel di Tora, as well as the archeological site of Trebula Mutuesca and Santa Vittoria Sanctuary, the travertino quarry at Poggio Mojano, medieval settlements and Franciscan monasteries. There is little public transport, but SabinARTi can organize excursions; also, a guided visit to the Montenero Castle will be offered exclusively at no cost to the residents. If needed, a taxi service can be hired.
