Penland School of Crafts
Penland's mission is to promote individual and artistic growth in crafts by providing programs and facilities that serve a full range of crafts endeavors. These intensive learning experiences are enhanced by the wide range of ages, nationalities, professions and backgrounds of our students. Penland is also an information resource centre for historical and contemporary crafts. Known as an international leader in the fields of crafts, Penland routinely provides assistance for research and exhibitions. The gallery, visitor canter and outreach programs serve a varied audience by providing educational opportunities for the interested general public, educators, collectors and school students.

Most of the resident artist studios are housed in a converted dairy barn at the edge of the campus. Apartments are located adjacent to the studio complex or within a 5-minute walking distance.

Penland School of Crafts is located in Mitchell County, North Carolina, 52 miles north of Asheville, near the town of Spruce Pine. The area is rural, isolated, and mountainous.
