Pick up from the airport on arrival, welcome dinner, all bills for using the studio as electricity, gas, water bills. Also the organisation offers guidance and connection to the art scene in Cairo.

Paid by artist 

The residency fee is $150 per week, however, they will be happy to write you an invitation to apply for a fund if you will be selected.The artist is responsible to pay their food, transportations within Cairo, flights to and from Egypt. All transportations or expenses related to the research/art project of the artist will be the responsibility of the artist.

Application guidelines 

Send an email to [email protected] with the following:

  • Your name (as in your passport) and artistic name with your nationality and country of residence for the moment
  • Proposal for a project or research that you want to develop during your stay (Two pages maximum)
  • Your biography including where and how do you work (One-page maximum)
  • Your artistic portfolio or a maximum of 10 photos or links of your works (they encourage young artists to apply too)
  • What time period you would like to do your residency (the residency is from two weeks to one month)
  • The organisers encourage artists from Middle East, gulf, Africa, Latin America as well as all international artists to apply.

Please note: In case of acceptance the organisers will ask a copy of your passport and an agreement will be made between you and the organisation.

Digital Art Residency

Description 

Out Of The Circle is a visual arts organization based in Cairo, Egypt. Their mission is supporting, connecting and promoting young visual and new media artists in Egypt with their peers in North Africa and abroad to let their stories be heard through their art. Besides, they open an art residency space for international artists to learn and connect through new media/digital art in Cairo.
After the great success of the previous arts residence 2019 season, they are glad to announce the ongoing open call for the residency. The residency is now open for new media artists, researchers, and curators all year.
The residency offers a chance for the participant to first conceptualize and then realize a specific residency project. The project can be a visual or digital art project, research as well as a workshop the residence would like to conduct. The Out of the Circle team supports the residents in developing their projects throughout the whole length of their stay.
Please apply early to reserve your place in the residency, they are booked till summer 2020 but the organisers will be glad to see your application for September, Autumn 2020 and after.

Gallery art visits, art contacts in Cairo, a space for making your research or to produce art.

Accommodation Information 

During their stay the residents will have the chance to discover different areas of Cairo and the vibrant cultural scene. The accommodation is located in central Cairo and well connected to Zamalek (15 minutes) and Downtown (20 minutes train ride). The Out Of The Circle team will also help the resident to establish connections with other local arts and culture organizations based on individual interests.
The residency accommodation is a shared two-room flat in a five-story house. The resident will have his private double room with a lock and a quiet place for working in the shared studio.
The bathroom and kitchen are shared. The flat has air conditionining and fans and warm water all year.

Studio Information 

The studio has wifi and it is in another room than the bedroom for accommodation. Still, it is on the same floor.

Technical Information 

A small library that contains different books about art, curating, Egyptian History and Art.
