Opketa is a non-profit, artist-run studio with 25 artists working in various disciplines.
Since 2011, its artist-in-residence programme has facilitated direct exchange between regional and international artists, art historians and curators. Through international cultural exchange and regional collaborations Opekta aims to promote, develop and strengthen networks between artists and art disciplines. The artists and art experts who participate in the Opekta artist-in-residence programme reflect the diverse artistic disciplines of both the artists working at OPEKTA and the art scene in Cologne. Opekta is looking for
Each residency is between four and eight weeks. During this time the visiting artist is asked to present their artistic work or research in the OPEKTA Project Space in the form of an installation, lecture, concert, performance, artist talk etc. By means of their own (social) infrastructure, the OPEKTA artists and collaboration partners connect the visiting artist with local artists, curators and institutions and provide organisational support.

free accommodation at the OPEKTA STUDIOS (42 m2 live-in studio / shared bathroom)
- use of the shared kitchen and other communal spaces
- use of the OPEKTA Project Space (150 m2)
- free internet (via Ethernet cable)
- support with networking and work presentation etc.
- professional artistic and technical support
After extensive renovations to the upper floor of a former gelatine factory (Opekta) 14 artist studios and a project space were officially opened in May 2010.
