Travel and visa costs, material and subsistence (food & transport), residency fee.
$1200 covers 1 month of rent and utilities. The residency is three months long, but the fourth month is the residents exhibition month, which is payed for by the gallery. The resident can choose to stay for the fourth month for free.

The May residency seeks artists documenting their contemporary life or environment with explicit intent. Residents should be able to discuss their work concisely and be able to explain their work to other professional artists. The program is designed to be an educational experience for the resident and a documentation of the interaction between the international and New Orleans arts communities.

May's live/work space is 2000sf with 17 foot tall ceilings and no columns. The space is housed inside a four story tall retired brewery built in the late 1800's. The May space has a full kitchen and bathroom and has 50-60 neighboring artists studios in the building, though they are not available through May the residency.
