One regularly scheduled four to five-week residency per year, offers up to ten artists the opportunity to live and work at the Clews Center for the Arts at the Chateau de La Napoule Complex. This residency focuses on individual artistic expression and exploration. At its core is a belief in the value of the shared experience of personal, professional and artistic discovery that takes place within a supportive environment of peers. This residency is open to all artistic genres.
Themed residencies focus on artistic expression and exploration through a specific shared perspective or goal. At its core is a belief in the value of the group's work as equally significant to the achievement of the individual - the artistic dialogue between all residents creates the end product, the whole body of work. Themed programs are either LNAF or guest facilitated.
The Clews Fellowship provides an exclusive opportunity for one distinguished artist per year to live and work at the Château. This artist must have demonstrated significant achievement in his or her field. This prestigious fellowship is by invitation only.
Residents are housed in private rooms in both the Chateau and Villa Marguerite, most with private bathrooms.
Each resident is provided with individual studio space. Studios are located throughout the estate and are assigned according to the differing needs of the residents. If applicants have specific requirements for their studio space, these needs should be addressed with the staff in advance. Writers are commonly assigned a single room in which to live and work. These are generously sized rooms with a view of the Mediterranean.
The Villa contains common areas, one with a computer for internet access and a wireless connection. It also has a kitchen, dining room, and laundry facilities.
One space is available with a studio piano if required.
Situated just west of Cannes, overlooking the Mediterranean, the Château occupies a site first settled by the Romans more than 2,000 years ago. The location of the Château - in a region rich in culture, history and artistic traditions - is ideal.
Regional trains stop at the La Napoule Train Station, across the street from the Château. They connect to national and international service in Nice. The international Nice-Cote d’Azur Airport is 30 minutes by car from the Chateau.
