The residency fee covers

  • Accommodation ( private room ) in the historical complex of Pieve di San Cresci for the duration of the program including studio space.
  • Support staff for orientation and general assistance.
  • Use of the facilities available at La Macina.
  • Inclusion in the Yearbook and website ( if during the residency the artist has developed the project proposal; the inclusion is at discretion of our Committee)
  • N. 1 copy of yearbook “The Artistic Time” relative to the year of residency of the applying artist
  • Electricity, water, Internet access.
  • Linen and towels are provided.
  • Final housecleaning service.
  • Two mountain bikes are available.
Paid by artist:

1 week €500, each next week €350. The Residency fee cover housing in the historical complex of Pieve di San Cresci for the duration of the program including studio space, shared room, and, if requested, ground transportation from and to Firenze airport on the first and last day of each session. The resideny fee cover also the attendance to the workshop in several disciplines ( when scheduled). A deposit of € 200 is requested when the applicant receives acceptation of the candidature.

The artists are responsible for material costs, travel and subsistence costs.

The residency fee does not cover

  • Heating and gas. The costs are paid cash in according to the use, the day before residents' departure.
  • The residents are expected to pay their own travel arrangements to and from the retreat and visa (if necessary), including a medical assistance. It is strongly recommended to have an insurance that covers the residents against illness, accident, etc. before leaving their home town. La Macina di San Cresci will be not responsible, at any time or under any circumstances, for medical fees in case of illness, accident, etc.
  • The residents are also responsible for all working materials, personal needs , meals and living costs.

  2. One-page, Project description, explaining what the artist wants to realize during the residence.
  3. One page, Bio/Resume/Professional Summary, this should include educational background, teaching, publications, exhibitions, awards, honors and other pertinent experience.
  4. Artist Statement (maximum 2000 characters- app. 400 words)
  5. Work samples as specified on the website

Description

La Macina di San Cresci is a residence for artists unique in the area, in which the residents find a space to pursue work , taking full advantage of the rich cultural backdrop offered by the ancient place and its surroundings. The centre offers the opportunity to work alone, or together with other creative people from other countries, developing and interchanging concise ideas on contemporary art and culture.

Outcome

At the end of the residency, an Open Studios day for public view is organized. This is a great chance for the artists to share the work done during the residency with a broader audience who is made up of professionals, art lovers, neighbors, friends.Exhibition and public talks takes place at discretion of the La Macina staff and in agreement with the resident artist. La Macina di San Cresci cooperates with some art galleries in Florence, where it is possible to organize exhibitions for the artists.

Studio Information

Two common studios : Ample 45 m2 workshop-room, suitable for pottery, painting and sculpture (access directly from the square) and Historic cellars (220 m2) divided into different areas and equipped with: meeting table, video projector, projection screen, computer, amplification system, wireless internet access. There is also space in use for different communal activities: reading, computer work, listening to music.

Accommodation Information

Apartment "Artist's house" 120 m² , is situated on the first floor. It has: 2 bedrooms with 3 beds, 2 bathrooms (one with shower and one with bath), a well-equipped kitchen and a living room area with fireplace are in common.

Location

Based above Greve in Chianti in the heart of Tuscany, between Florence & Siena. The Pieve di San Cresci is the oldest in the Chianti region, and is found in ecclesiastical documents as far back as the year 948. The Pieve is a part of an architectural complex composed of the Church, the Chapel of SS. Sacramento and the parish house. The cellars of the Pieve are part of the parish house with their entry directly on to the communal road.
