The Artist-in-Residence Program began in 1992 as a way to revitalize the spirit in which the institution was designed and to support the imaginative through creativity and learning by giving artists an active role in the reshaping and rethinking the museum. If their schedule permits, the artist-in-residence will work with the museum's Education Department in cooperation with partnership schools and teachers. This commitment will be a minimum of twelve hours during the residency term but may expanded upon mutual written agreement.

The museum is located on the Fenway in Boston.
