Individual travelling expenses, working material. Artists are responsible for purchasing and preparing their own meals.
Grants are awarded to selected artists regardless of age , sex, or sexual preference, religion, or ethnic origin. Selection is based upon review of the application, examples of work and references. The annual deadline for applications is January 18th for residencies the following calendar year. Grantees will be notified of their fellowship awards by June 1st. The Foundation's purpose is to provide a quiet haven where artists may pursue their creative endeavors without pressure to produce while they are in residence.
The campus of the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation consists of eleven artist residency "casitas" (3 for visual artists, 3 for composers, 5 for literary artists). They are single-occupancy, furnished homes.
