Accommodation, board, food, and studio. All meals are prepared by Hedgebrook’s chefs, using organic food from our garden and local farmers.
Individual traveling expenses. Applicants may apply for a scholarship.
The women who come to Hedgebrook are writing in all genres, and are of all ages, ethnicities, backgrounds and levels of writing experience.
The selection process occurs once a year, in the fall. Through a completely anonymous, two-round process, approximately forty writers are invited for residencies of two weeks to six weeks. The residency season runs from February to November.

Hedgebrook exists to strengthen the voices of women writers of all ages and from diverse backgrounds by providing a place where they can find connections with one another and with the earth, and the words to build community in the world.
Six fully furnished cottages, including efficiency kitchen, bathroom, desk, sleeping loft, washer and dryer.
The main floor of the writers cottage has a work area with ample desk space, a sitting area with window seat looking out into the woods, and a comfortable armchair. Bookshelves have space for the writer’s personal library.
Computer and internet connection provided in common area (shared), Ethernet provided in common area
The residency is ocated on thirty-three acres of farm and woodlands on Whidbey Island in Washington State.
