The residency fee for 2016 is 650 euros/month/private room and 975 euros/month/double room/couple. The fee includes the accomodation room, studio and the right to use common spaces (a bigger joint kitchen/living room, tv-room, sauna etc.). Travel, food and other living costs pays the artists themselves.
Haihatus is a non-profit artist-run art center in Central Finland. The aim of Haihatus residency is to offer resources for artists of different art forms to work; to encourage interaction between artists and different forms of art, and provoke art activity between the Haihatus community and its neighbourhood. 1-3 months residencies for 2017 in Haihatus are now open to apply.
The aim of the organization is to promote art without borders, both in making the art as well as presenting it. Haihatus is best known for its annual summer exhibition of contemporary art. Currently Haihatus is expanding to other art forms from just visual arts and has for that purpose bought two old houses more to be renovated into a local cultural space. The purpose is to provide a space for creation, encourage exchange between artists and different artistic disciplines as well as to active the art life in and around the Haihatus Art Center.
The residency rooms are 17 – 23 m2 with one or two beds. Rooms are furnished and each of them includes a small kitchen with dishware. WC's and showers are located in the joint rooms.
There are 10 - 60 m² studios to work or excercise, room for performing, exhibitions, dwelling, wi-fi, a sauna etc. Two haihatuscats, Purhonen and Korhonen are freely purring all over the house, which might the allergic ones be good to be aware of.
The building has wireless internet access.
Haihatus is located in southern Finland, a rural community of Joutsa. The distance from Helsinki to Joutsa is 200 km and from nearest city Jyväskylä 70 km. There are good daily express coach services and you´ll reach Joutsa by bus in 3 hours from Helsinki Airport. There are supermarkets, shops, flea markets, restaurants cafes and a good library. Nature is beautiful and the seasonal change is very affective. Haihatus is in middle of forests to ramble and lakes to swim - or ski and ice skate in winter.
