Unfortunately they don’t offer any grants but they do issue a formal letter of invitation for applications who need to seek grants and support elsewhere.

Paid by artist:

Every artist pays a monthly fee. Note: Once your application has been approved, your place will be secured on receipt of full payment of dues. The fee includes:

  • Studio space and living area: 65m2
  • Electricity, heating and water
  • WiFi connection.
  • Final event (presentation and exhibition at the fully equipped gallery)
  • Publicity
  • Press release
  • Basic tools and equipment.

Not included are travel cost, transportation to and from the airport, visa, daily living expenses, medical insurance.

Description

The Gil Artist Residency is located in Akureyri, North Iceland and was founded in 1991 by the Gilfélag association. They aim to stimulate creativity through interaction with the local environment, artists and cultural institutions, and seek to foster relations between participants and the local community. The Gil Artist Residency is a place for artistic research, production, meetings and exhibitions.

Outcome

The artists are expected to give a presentation and exhibit their work in the end of their stay, at the fully equipped gallery Deiglan.

Studio Information

They can accommodate one or two artists, and are equipped with one independent studio, Wireless Internet connection, fully equipped kitchen & bathroom and a fully equipped gallery for final events & exhibitions. The exhibition space Deiglan is next door to the studio and has an internal access from the studio.

Accommodation Information

They offer artists in residence the possibility to live in the studio: single bright studio which is provided with wi-fi, two work desks, shelves, closet, double bed and a sofa bed for guests.
