The Host will cover the expenses of studio visits, presentation of the resident artists, Cultural tours within Kathmandu Valley, workshop with community kids/ adults as well as Final Curatorial Exhibition including basic reception. During the residency period, the gallery will host interaction with media personals for the coverage of the artists in Nepali newspapers and online news.

However, if participants can find resources to cover their expenses (travel, food, living, material expenses) through an institution in their country, the host will be happy to provide any official letter required. Any space inside the gallery is accessible and usable for the artist.

Paid by artist:

Residency program is for 1 to 3 months and the fee is $600 per month per artist including a studio room with airport pickup and drop, Wi-Fi, electricity, kitchen, Laundry and water supply. The resident artist is responsible for the expenses of food, personal supplies, art materials, transportation costs and any other space outside the gallery. If someone wants to stay less than a month just using accommodation will be considered as a visitor and the charge will be US$50 per day.
MCube can arrange cultural tour trekking or hiking guide outside Kathmandu Valley if the artist is interested. The artist needs to bare the responsibility of the additional expenditure.

AIR_MCUBE International residency program is a one to six month’s long interdisciplinary artist residency program organized by Gallery Mcube Nepal, an artist-run gallery and studio space located in the center of the historical city Lalitpur, Nepal. This residency program is completely self-organized and suitable for self-directed projects. It is awarded to international artists, who have potential in working for various visual art practices like painting, printing, sculpture, installation, performance art, multi-media etc. Artists, writers, media artists, sound artists and composers, whoever is interested can apply for this residency. The selected resident artist will have interactions and collaboration projects with local artists. The artists will have their separate studio space within the premises of the Gallery. There will be a shared kitchen, shared bathroom, multimedia room, resource room and a garden area for the convenience of the artist. As part of AIR_MCUBE International residency program, there will be presentation sessions, interaction sessions, and critique sessions. It will be concluded by Open house exhibitions.

This residency is open to emerging and established artists from a range of disciplines. However, spaces are limited as the selection process will be competitive in order to ensure quality, innovation and a strong commitment to the practical and creative objectives of this residency. For artists applying for grants and scholarships in their home country, Gallery Mcube can provide official documents and letters of invitation.

Upon completion of the residency, the artist will have an Open House Exhibition and critique session afterwards.

Outcome

AIR_MCUBE artist in residence is offered to international artists who have the potential in working in various visual art practices including painting, printing, sculpture, installation, performance art, multi-media, theatre, videos, writing, sound art and also have interested in learning Nepali Art and collaborate with Nepali artists and artisans. At the end of the residency, Gallery Mcube will host an exhibition for artists in residence to the art lovers, art enthusiasts and the public.

Studio Information

Studio space is combined with accommodation access to a common working space, terrace and access to a garden. The artist can use some power tools for woodworking and metal (circular saw, router, drill machine and equipment available in their studio).

Accommodation Information

Gallery Mcube is located in one of the oldest cities of Nepal named Lalitpur which is situated within Kathmandu Valley just 15 minutes drive from Tribhuvan international Airport. The area is modern just 10 minutes walking distance from the world heritage sites of Patan Durbar Square. Accommodation is well furnished and equipped with comfortable bedding, shared kitchen, bathroom and gallery space with high-speed wifi combined with studio space.
