Description

Fife Contemporary is an independent visual art & craft organisation based in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. Our programme is not delivered from a single venue but across Fife, through varied partnerships in all kinds of places. We are also developing the digital services available to an even larger audience through this site.

Fife Contemporary’s origins

Fife Contemporary has been in existence since 2006, but its roots can be found in the Crawford Arts Centre, a long established venue in St Andrews that closed its doors in 2006. Since 2006, a small staff team has forged strong links with the artist community in Fife and beyond, and works in partnership with a wide range of organisations within Fife, the UK and internationally to bring exciting contemporary visual art & craft projects to life.

Exhibitions are at the heart of Fife Contemporary’s interest in creating activity which is multi-disciplinary in approach and outcome. People of all ages are also engaged through varied participatory activity. A unique network has been built for artists in Fife and beyond, providing information and opportunities for them to meet and develop their work.

Part of Fife Contemporary’s programme involves craft development. New graduates and makers are now supported by Materialise which includes an online exhibition & residency opportunity. Fife Contemporary’s online shop sells past exhibition publications, artist multiples, craft items from Materialise artists and our CARE project. This has been limited due to Covid-19 with the hope to expand it again soon.

Fife Contemporary organises artists’ residencies in partnership with other organisations. As of May 2021, there are two open calls:

  1. Marchmont House & Creative Informatics Residency
  2. Studio-Access Artist Residency at Birnam Arts

Please refer to the FCAC website to be informed about the description and conditions of each call.
