Living and working at the Kollegium is free of charge for professional literary translators (In addition to the reimbursement of costs for private telephone calls, faxes and photocopies, we charge a weekly flat rate of € 20). The Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium is authorised to award residency grants from means and in the name of third parties. The Kollegium has binding contracts of cooperation with many grant providers that allow professional literary translators to stay at the EÜK for several weeks.
Applicants must have already published at least 2 books and must be under permanent contract with a publisher. Applications can be sent in throughout the year.
Equipped with a library of 110.000 volumes in around 2070 different languages, in a historical building covering a surface of more than 2000 m2 the Europäisches Übersetzer Kolloquium provides accommodations to literary translators from all parts of the worls throughout the year. The assosiation aims at fostering international cultural axchanges and abolishing language barriers, while facilitating the circulation of foreign literature in Germany as well as of German literature abroad.
29 resident rooms in a historical building in Straelen with shared kitchen (fully equipped kitchens where you can cook your own meals), shower-room and telephone.
30 comfortable studio apartments with a total living space of 2500 sq.m.
45 PCs, several laser printers; scanner; photocopier. They allow access to the Internet 24 hours a day. A library of 110 000 books, including 25 000 encyclopaedias and dictionaries in more than 275 languages and dialects, including a comprehensive collection of digital media.
