Residencies are self-funded. They include orientation of area including art suppliers, beaches, local shops and studio facilities. Starting at R340 per day (c.a. 20 euro) for shared studio space, en-suite bedroom with private workspace and self catering facilities, laundry, collection from airport, transport to shops, weekly outing to East London.
If you want to come to produce a body of work, provide a CV & provisional outline of what you are aiming to work on in your residency and proposed dates, plus 3-5 examples of work related to your residency. Driftwood Studios is an art studio and gallery with accommodation where sculptor George Kockott lives and works. The aim of the programme is to support all artists to research, develop and create art by offering accommodation and a studio, gallery and mentoring support of George Kockott in a rural setting by the sea (yet near the city) where nature and the sun can restore and inspire. The residency is in a family friendly environment next to the artists own home.
It depends on the duration and artist preferences.
They host individuals and groups. One 2-bedroom and one 1-bedroom cottage, en-suite with self catering facilities suitable for accompanying families/partners/children or groups.
An open plan studio/gallery, 2nd studio with ceramic facilities and third with woodworking machinery, forge, and space in own unit to set up a workstation with task lighting etc to artists requirements.
Driftwood is owned by Sculptor George Kockott. George has 35 years experience of creating anything from a yacht to raku ceramics. He has a strong technical background and a wealth of information and experience to help artists develop their ideas. The gallery is 14 x 6 meters and uitable for performing arts rehearsals.
