The residencies include technical and critical support, serving the needs of the artist as well as access to the D6 network and studio facility. Artists will be supported by D6 through exposure through the website, fostering invaluable relationships with artists and organisations in the local communities and beyond in innovative thinking and creative risk-taking.

For artists who wish to include residency as part of a funded project, D6 will be happy to submit a letter of support.

D6 offers two types of residencies:

  • Research residencies: they offer regular subsidised research residencies for regional, national and international visual and media artists in D6’s self-contained city-centre studios.
  • Self-funded artist residencies: they consider applications for self-funded residencies, for regional, national and international visual and media artists for agreed periods of up to a maximum of 3 months, and can provide a letter of support if needed.

Description

D6: Culture in Transit are visual arts producers and policy advisors, promoting the role of artists in the sustainable development of towns and cities. Working with extraordinary artists and intrepid partners, they develop projects which capture and reveal the stories that unite us. Through research, commissioning, and presentation their programme promotes the value of the arts in creating fairer, informed and more generous societies.

The residency programme provides opportunities for artists to develop their practice. Furthermore they arrange artists talks and networking events for the residents so that they can be introduced to new networks and present their work to a wide audience. The artists studio is based in their offices in Newcastle in the United Kingdom. They offer funded residency opportunities throughout the year. If you are interested in financing a residency yourself or are planning on raising your own funding, please contact them at [email protected].
