The Civitella Ranieri Foundation will provide the selected UNESCO-Aschberg Laureate with an apartment, work space, and two meals six days per week for a six-week residency. UNESCO-Aschberg will provide and manage the travel arrangements, which includes a round-trip airline ticket at best rates in economy class. The Laureate may choose one of four sessions in the residency season, based on availability, which runs from May through October, 2014.

Application guidelines 

The Civitella Ranieri Foundation provides Fellowships to visual artists, musicians and writers on an invitational basis. It does not accept unsolicited applications and cannot award a Fellowship to anyone who has not been recommended by one of the Foundation’s nominators.


The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme is open to professional composers born in Asia, Africa, Central America, Colombia, Bolivia or Chile. Candidates must be between 25 – 35 years of age while in residence in 2014. English is the common language at The Center therefore the Laureate must be able to speak English reasonably well. Apply by November 15.

Description 

The Civitella Ranieri Center is a workplace for gifted artists from different disciplines and countries. In keeping with the spirit of its founder, Ursula Corning, and the tradition of hospitality and support for the arts that she established at the castle, the Center seeks to enable its Fellows to pursue their work and to exchange ideas in this unique and inspiring setting. The Center is funded by the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, a non-profit corporation with offices in New York City.

Residencies are by nomination only. As a result of a collaboration with The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme, a residency by application is available for one musician/composer.
