Since 2003 CFCCA has coordinated a residency programme, which invites artists, researchers and writers to work and reside in a purpose built studio next to the gallery space. This unique space provides opportunities for development and the space and time to work on ambitious projects. The CFCCA residency programme gives emerging artists an international platform from which to raise their profile, while enriching the arts ecology of Manchester. Each residency concludes with an open studio exhibition, talk or performance, which is a great opportunity to discover new artists from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the UK.
Residencies vary in length with two types of opportunity: Whisper residencies which last two or three weeks, and Breathe residencies which run for approximately three months. The residency works with a network of cultural organisations across China to deliver exchanges and also accept artists via open call.
Open Studio exhibition, artist talk.
Artists and curators are invited to live and work on site at CFCCA in a purpose built studio and living space.
In a live/work custom-designed project space, artists are provided with unlimited access to a studio, allowing them to make work at their own pace and access all the facilities at CFCCA.
