Residence Botkyrka is a context-based residency program for internationally active artists, curators and architects who are interested in working site specifically. Residence Botkyrka is exploring new forms of art in the public space and is supporting projects that are hard to make without a longer stay. Residence Botkyrka wants to create good conditions for artistic freedom and develop the local participation. Every year we invite the public to Fittja Open – an annual presentation of the public art in Botkyrka with art, happenings and talks.
Botkyrka has adopted an extension of the so called “one percent rule”, where artists are offered the opportunity of a public commission to work within the municipal street and park design and wastewater treatment. Within the framework of Residence Botkyrka, artists are invited at an early idea- and planning stage of the development process.
The accommodation apartment is situated in Fittja in one of Botkyrkabyggen’s buildings. It has room for 1-2 visiting grant holders, so kitchen and bathroom are sometimes shared.
The studio is located at the Multicultural Centre in Fittja which houses a library, a lunch restaurant and a research staff.
Botkyrka is part of Greater Stockholmand is one of Sweden’s most international municipalities with people from about eighty different countries speaking more than hundred languages. The studio is located at the Multicultural centre, where you have migration researchers within an arm’s length of whose work and network you can easily take part of. The Tavern at the Multicultural centre is a perfect place for lunch and coffee meetings. A much appreciated lunch buffet is served here.
