Artista X Artista is an initiative of Carlos Garaicoa Studio that is developed in different ways with the objective of establishing horizontal connections between the young art scene and growing institutional network and cultural agents worldwide.
Artista X Artista comes from the necessity to find and generate support from the inside of the art scene to answer the needs of emerging artist. The platform created the opportunity and the conditions for the residence of international artists in Havana, being able to interact with local cultural entities, give workshops and carry out some field work and investigation in situ. The purpose is that both parts – visitors and local scene – can equally benefit with a work and life experience. In the same way, Artista X Artista is working on partnerships so Cuban artist can also have residences abroad, and have a benefitial experience for their career.
Artista X Artista is a pioneer project in the Cuban art scene, that looks forward to build a sustainable model of long term collaborations and put an emphasis on creating new spaces with similar work philosophies and support the young creators, in the changing environment of the Cuban society.
Artista X Artista is located on the third floor of a 50’s modernist building, in a privileged situation on the Miramar Neighborhood, Havana. It’s 235 m2 and has a usable floor area of 195 m2.
The rest are two bedrooms with bathrooms and independent terraces for each resident, the full equiped kitchen-dinning room, toilet and inner clothes line. The appartment has direct view on the sea and all rooms are exterior and have natural light and ventilation. 1 or 2 artists can be hosted there at the same time.
Groups, partners and families cannot be hosted.
Among the facilities and resources that the space holds, there is a spacious and bright living room with a professional drawing table. This comunal space is also used as a shared working area for the residents and a exhibition space, and it’s used for public presentations and conferences. Other parts of the apartment are also used for artistic interventions and site-specifics
