NOASS
Culture and Arts Project NOASS is a creative intelligence association that is in the eleventh year of its operating existence and is one of the oldest non-governmental arts and culture organizations in Latvia. NOASS’ goal is to participate in the formation of the Latvian and European cultural environment. In the main, residency supports the realization of contemporary arts projects in an urban environment, making art a part of the daily lives of residents of Riga and visitors to the city. NOASS nurtures the creativity of society and individuals.
Residency program
NOASS Art Centre offers residency options to foreign artists, who want to improve their creative practice, as well as to discover Riga as a city of contrasts and one open to the manifestations of contemporary art. The driving forces behind our residencies are creative process, experiments and searches conducted through the medium of art.
At present, due to the spread of COVID-19 and travel restrictions, applications for residencies have been temporarily suspended.
The studio is fully furnished with furniture and the aforementioned kitchen.
Residency offers exhibition premises, technical equipment, a 5x8m big LED screen for presentation of video works, projectors, technical personnel and consultations, audio equipment for lectures, presentations or musical performances. Also a 110 m2 exhibition space for the presentation of works on the “Betanovuss” floating arts centre, as well as two smaller exhibition spaces on the deck of NOASS and at the Naive Art Museum of Latvia.
For the artists’ residence, we offer beautiful studio-type apartments with a kitchen and bathroom in the very heart of the city at Alfreda Kalnina iela 8, next to Vermanes Garden and the oldest circus in Europe. The apartments are located on the 5th floor with a wonderful view over the city’s roofs to the park.
It is located seven minutes walk away from the city’s historic centre, next to the Naive Art museum of Latvia. Andrejsala is a former port district and the heart of Riga’s alternative art scene. It is the location of the nascent Museum of Contemporary Art and home to many other dream projects linked to culture.
