Pankhurst in the Park

Note: In 2016 the Artist in Residency will be done by invitation only, after there will be an open call again.

Alexandra Arts has set up an International Artist Residency for an artist to explore Alexandra Park’s significant heritage connected to Emmeline Pankhurst. The iconic Suffragettes leader (born Goulden,1858 –1928) who was a political activist and instrumental in gaining the right for women to vote. She was born only yards from Alexandra Park in the neighbouring Moss Side Estate and locally there are no traces of her legacy.

This Artist Residency opportunity welcomes a female artist working in any art form to be inspired by, contemporise and creatively illuminate the significant local history that is linked to Alexandra Park. The artist residency places a strong emphasis on engagement and collaboration, seeking to deepen the existing relationships between Alexandra Park and the multicultural community surrounding it.

Accommodation Information

Alexandra Arts will also provide a bike and a modest room in a shared house, within close proximity of the Park for the duration of the residency.

Studio Information

Alexandra Arts will provide access to a basic studio space for the artist, containing a desk, small work space and wi-fi. However the artist will be required to use Alexandra Park as a research lab and main hub for their activity.

Technical Information

There are no tools or specialist facilities at Alexandra Park nor at the studio space provided. However Alexandra Arts will assist the artist finding alternative facilities or tools if required.
