Fellowship opportunity at Stone Summer Theory Institute, SAIC - Chicago

The Stone Summer Theory Institute is an intensive week of seminars, lectures, and panel discussions, which will be published as a series of books involving over 300 scholars. It is held each July in Chicago. Fellows are not expected to present papers, but are asked to do up to 2,000 pages of advance readings for the seminars. This year's theme is 'Beyond the Aesthetic and the Anti-Aesthetic,' arguably one of the central puzzles of contemporary art practice. The choice between continuations of modernism (with its aesthetic values) and the various kinds of postmodernism that privilege politics, gender, identity, and other issues, remains a formative one for young artists, and continues to create deep divisions in the teaching and practice of art.
