Networks: One Big Family!?
Nothing but the plain truth about international residency networks, brought to you by the director of Sanskriti residency program in New Delhi, India.
"To be quite frank: on the one hand there is a desire to share, and on the other hand a desire not to share. And thats okay. Each residential art centre has its own agenda. Just as we like to meet everybody and just as we like to know about everybody, each of us still wants to guard its own residency programme, its own identity and background. Therefore, we must not expect too much of meetings of residency networks; there will never be one common goal. One has to keep in mind Res Artis is not a big cultural organization, operating as one force. Funding, for instance, differs enormously from country to country, so we cannot operate as one funding agency. But if we need to communicate, we should endeavor to bridge the gaps between the differences. That is what we aim to do."
O.P. Jain, director of Sanskriti Foundation New Delhi (2002, Res Artis General Meeting, Helsinki)
