Tokyo Wonder Site

Tokyo Wonder Site

Residency

Description

Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS) launched its residency programs in 2006, cooperating with art centers and cultural institutions all over the world. Calling for "Research Residency Program", aimed at both international and local creators who are willing to conduct research activities on arts and culture for new creation in the city of Tokyo. Tokyo Wonder Site is an art center dedicated to the generation and promotion of new art and culture from the heart of Tokyo. While TWS Hongo supports and nurtures young talent in all fields in programs related to the government-hosted "Tokyo Wonder Wall" exhibition of works chosen from among entries from the general public, TWS Shibuya is a hub in a global cultural network of affiliated cultural facilities in Japan and abroad, and at once a platform for both new talents and internationally active creators to exchange and showcase their works. Tokyo Wonder Site first opened an artist-in-residence in Aoyama in 2006. Approximately 100 Japanese and international creative people per year were invited to stay and work. Renewing the name as "Tokyo Wonder Site Residency", the new residency will open in new location - Sumida area, where the Shitamachi(traditional residential districts) culture and the local industry remain. Along with the approaching TWS Hongo and TWS Shibuya, TWS residency supports artistic activities as Tokyo's new international platform and art center.
