Siao-Long Cultural Park
Siao-Long aims to foster international exchange with artists from around the world and thereby create a vibrant community of artists, both local and international, emerging and established. Resident artists will be living in close proximity to local craftsmen and artisans and they are encouraged to take the community and the vibrant local culture as inspiration for their artworks. Artists have access to wheelchair-accessible, air-conditioned, modern studio spaces, as well as galleries and theatres for exhibitions, workshops and performances.
During the residency, the selected applicants should provide one type of presentation, such as an exhibition or a performance, and hold (at least) one session of the children-friendly workshop or one-day artist open studio.
Approaching the end of the residency, the successful applicants are required to complete a report and questionnaire. The report should include details of the residents’ experience, the progress of the project and any relevant feedback.
Placements of up to three months with free accommodation and studio space.
The village has professional wheelchair-accessible air-conditioned modern studio spaces, galleries and theatres for exhibitions, workshops and performances.
All selected artists can apply for accommodation; however, such accommodation is only for resident artists. To maintain the safety, living quality and rights of every single artist, the accommodation is not available for non-artists to stay overnight (including family members, assistants, partners or pets).
Siao-Long Cultural Park is located in the Jiali district, on the northern outskirts of Tainan city. Jiali is a tranquil and leisurely small town with a laid-back lifestyle, located approximately 45 minutes drive from downtown Tainan. The park has evolved from the former Jiali Sugar Factory, where its revitalized Japanese-era sugar refinery warehouses have successfully merged historic architecture with modern design in an area that is itself rich in history, culture and agriculture. As a cultural stronghold for traditional performance and folk arts, the park has transformed itself into a modern art venue that promotes artistic growth.
