Paid by artist 
  • Artists are required to finish the creation plan before the residency periods.
  • At least one project from the resident should be left in Pier 2 Art Center, by mutual consent, before the residency period expires.
  • Artist are required to finish the communication and cooperation plan during the residency period (workshop, academic exchange, education programs, community empowerment, etc.).
  • Foreign artists are requires to deduct NTD 10,000 from transportation fees (roundtrip) as a deposit. Local artist are required to deduct whole transportation fee as a deposit. The whole deposit will be refunded after the artists submit the closure report, the communication and cooperation plan, and complete the procedure of checking out.
Application guidelines 

Complete the online application form. Artists can begin residency program 3 months after they deliver the application form. However, artists are also allowed to start residencies before the end of next year. For any further questions, please contact: pier2air@gmail.com.

During October 2017-December 2017, PAIR is having OPEN CALL for field of photography. The program is open to any kind form. At the end of residency, selected artist will have chance to present their works via exhibitions or window art gallery…etc. To apply please complete the online application form.

Pier-2 Art Center Artist-in-Residence Program

Description 

Pier-2 Art Center is located in Taiwan’s second largest city, Kaohsiung. As a cluster of old warehouses next to Kaohsiung Harbor, Pier-2 Art Center positions itself as an artistic, diverse, experimental, creative space which is open to any kind of possibilities. It is a cross-domain art center which includes visual art, music, drama, culture and creativity, film, and entertainment.
A 33-square-meter creation space (including a bathroom) and a 17-square-meter attic that will serve as a living space will be available for resident artists to create artwork, so as to revive Pier-2 and establish a platform for art and cultural exchanges and performances.

Exhibition, installation, performance, workshop, artist talk etc.

Accommodation Information 

There is a communication space (lounge) near artists’ studios. Most parts of warehouses’ original appearance are mainly kept and go with simple and modern architectural style. This place can be used for artists’ communication, Pier-2 administration, and exhibition promotion. 

The lounge has 2 floors. There is a big conference room on the 1st floor. It has different functions according to different requirements such as lectures or social hall. Kitchen is on the 2nd floor and artists can cook something simple. Refrigerator, microwave, electric stove, cooking utensils, and tableware are all included.

Studio Information 

Pier-2 Art Center provides every artist with a studio (living space included) which can be used for creation, exhibitions, accommodation, and communication. A 2-floor studio is 45 m2 and divided into two parts:

  • 1st floor is for working, exhibitions and communication (restroom included).
  • 2nd floor is for accommodation space (about 15m2). A studio can hold at maximum of 2 artists. Air-conditioner, fire facility, an electric water boiler, a refrigerator, a bed, some storage cabinets and other basic facilities are included. Only laundry should be sent out to the nearby laundry shop by yourself.
