Description
MIRA - Martignano International Residency for Artists, supports international artists and promotes the cultural exchange between artistic disciplines and international experiences. MIRA offers 5 large furnished rooms. The grounds are divided between 2 buildings, one having a main, large, shared work studio, and the other permitting the artists to work freely throughout the house in order to create wherever they feel more at ease, whether it be in or outside. Wireless Internet throughout and bycicles for each artist. Once a month they organize an open house in which local artists and the surrounding community are invited in order to further promote the cultural exchange between the artists and their adopted home.
Studio Information
Large common studio plus designated exterior and interior spaces in order to allow the artist to create in the environment of their choice.
Accommodation Information
Five bedroom. Three with private bathrooms. Two rooms share a bathroom. Two of the bedrooms are over 30m2 with huge vaulted ceilings.
Paid by host
Transportation to and from Brindisi International Airport or Lecce train station, promotional materials for monthly open house and the exhibition at the Palazzo Palmieri Museum every two months. Cleaning service twice a week and Laundry service once a week.
Paid by artist
700 to 900 Euro per month depending on the room selected/available. MIRA can give letters of recommendation and or/official invites to aid artists in obtaining funds.
Location
Martignano is a beautiful, typically small town and comune of 1,770 inhabitants in the province of Lecce in Apulia, Italy. It is part of Salento and is one of the nine towns of Grecìa Salentina, an area where Griko, an ancient Greek dialect is still spoken. Puglia, or Apulia as it is called in English, is Italy's boot heel, its southeastern most region.
