Konstepidemin/The Epidemic of Art is a large studio area in Göteborg. A former Epidemic hospital, in 1987 turned into about 100 working studios for artists in different areas: art, mixed media, music, theatre, arts and crafts and literature. The area also contain galleries, 5 guest studios and a restaurant. The guest studios are let out primarly to international guests and in co-operation with Pépinières and Iaspis (International Artists Studio Program in Sweden). Konstepidemin is a non-profit organisation run by artists.
During 2013 the rent is 6 500 kr/month (for Studio Robert the rent is 5 800 kr/month). You live and work in the studio, where there’s a workroom, a bedroom, shower and kitchen (wireless internet is included in the rent). All guest studios are fully equipped with kitchen utensils and bed linen. Graphics Workshop, dark room and laundry room are on site. Access to a computer, photocopier. Bikes can be borrowed
The centre is situated on the west coast of Sweden, Göteborg is the second largest city in the country, with a population of around 450 000 people. The city is the Cultural centre of western Sweden and boasts a number of museums, a university with several firmly established artistic divisions, theatres, dance scenes and numerous galleries. The centre is aformer hospital for epidemic diseases. It consists of ten different buildings and a large park.
