The artist groups have the possibility to work for a period of one month to three months at the Fleetstreet Theatre in Hamburg. If the group doesn´t live in Hamburg, a studio apartment (3 rooms, kitchen, bathroom) is provided and a cash grant for the group in the total amount of € 1000,00 per month will be paid. For all groups the Hamburger Kulturstiftung and the Rudolf Augstein Stiftung will grant the amount of € 1000,00 per month each. This funding doesn't have to be applied additionally.

Application guidelines:

Interested groups of artists can submit applications online combined into two PDF files. Both files together must not be larger than 3 megabytes. Unfortunately, postal applications cannot be considered. The 1.PDF should contain the fact sheet (template for download). Please name the PDF after: "Gruppenname_Antragsformular".

The 2.PDF should include the following (application documents in German or English):

  • Description of the project proposals with visualization that is as meaningful as possible (also in the form of sketches, photos, plans; including ideas for mediation/presentation, etc.)
  • Detailed financial plan for the projects (template for download); if technical assistance is needed, Techniker_innen of the house can be requested. This should be taken into account in the financial plan (€300 per day).
  • Self-presentation/short biography of the Künstler_innen involved
  • Selection of documentation of realized projects (e.g. links to Vimeo, photos, etc.), a maximum of 10 DIN A 4 pages.

If the Künstler_innen involved are not based in Hamburg, the Hamburg Cultural Authority will pay an expense allowance totalling €1,000 per month. All groups receive a total of €2,000 per month in funding from the Hamburg Cultural Foundation and the Rudolf Augstein Foundation. There is no need to submit an additional application to the foundations themselves.

Experience has shown that most of the residency groups have not received any further funding from Hamburg (cultural authorities, foundations), as three sponsors are already involved in the residency. Therefore, it is recommended to apply for the residency program with projects that can be realized with the financial means of a maximum of 3000€/month, regardless of the size of the group. The total budget of the project should not exceed €12,000 for a two-month residency.
