The Blank Residency
The Blank is a cultural network born in 2010 to promote and enhance territories, identities and local cultural heritage through contemporary art and its participatory, inclusive
and transnational dimension. The activity of The Blank contributes to the social growth of the community with which is engaged in a dialogue and fosters the access and the
development of the public through exhibitions, publications, educational projects, residencies and international exchanges.
In 2011 The Blank starts in Bergamo the first project of mobility and hospitality, establishing an artist residence with The Blank Residency. The residency project hosts Italian and international artists and theorists, selected through open calls and projects upon invitation, and offers them space and relationships to develop their artistic research, both practical and theoretical. The residency program is organized in different projects that embrace various contemporary researches and create connections with Italian and international institutions. The residence offers the chance to meet and be guided to discover the national and local cultural reality and to develop a dialogue with the local community that is actively involved in the projects.
At the beginning of the residency artists will introduce themselves to the community with an informal presentation of their previous activities and works. The residency period concludes with an Open Studios day and the presentation of their project proposal.
Accommodation and studio are located in a 130sqm apartment. The flat has a single bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, a kitchen and two rooms for the resident’s studio. Free wi-fi connection is available.
The studio and the accommodation are located at the fist floor apartment of an 18th century building with a courtyard. Bergamo is characterised by a urban structure which divides the town onto two levels, the lower part, which is modern and dynamic and the higher, which is a peculiar and valuable historic and art site. Bergamo is both a province and municipality located in Lombardy, Italy at about 40 km northeast of Milan. Its population is over 120,000 inhabitants. Both the province and the metropolitan area in Milan are easily connected to Orio al Serio Airport.
